Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2008 BMW X5
Question:
Hi, when i bought my bike, the shop said my ONLY option was to install a hitch and buy a hitch rack for it.....are you certain this will have what i need or the 3 bike rack? thanks

There are indeed trunk mount bike racks that will fit your 2008 BMW X5. The Thule Passage # TH910XT and # TH911XT are listed as fits. But I recommend going with the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top rack # HRF2 for 2 bikes or # HRF2-3 for 3 bikes. If there is any type of spoiler at the top of the hatch then this is the only rack that will not put stress on it. It is also so versatile that it will fit many other vehicles should the need arise.
If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
