Base Plate Options for Flat Towing a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Using a Sterling Tow Bar
Question:
Just purchased a used sterling all terrain towbar. I have a 99 jeep wrangler with an after market stubby front bumper. I have the quick disconnect, but need to order the mounting brackets. Which one works the best. Thanks.

We carry base plates for three different bumper types that could have been on a 1999 jeep Wrangler. There are sets for those with a single tube bumper. Others for a double tube bumper. And a third set for those that have a u-channel bumper. I have provided a link to the base plate main page for you so that you can select the correct bumper type so you can see the compatible base plate options.
The Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar, # RM-576, works with all Roadmaster vehicle-specific base plates - EZ, MX, XL and Standard. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view.
The tow bar comes with safety cables and wiring, so you will need a compatible lighting system on the Jeep. To keep it simple, I would go with the Roadmaster Standard Magnetic Tow Lights, # RM-2120.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to set up and use is the Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is a proportional systems. That means it applies the vehicles brakes in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. This type of braking is the safest and it will reduce wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing that contain even more helpful information.
