Recommended Aftermarket Brake Controller for 2008 GMC 2500 With Factory Integrated Brake Controller
Question:
There is very little braking on either of my trailers. Other trucks will lock the brakes. Can only detect that the brakes engage. Almost no stopping power - either trailer. Mechanic friend says to install aftermarket system. Seems to be regular issue. Have cleaned contacts etc. Can this be rectified? If not, what system is best? Towing 15000 lbs.

Since you have cleaned the contacts on your 2008 GMC 2500 with factory integrated controller, the only thing to increase your braking is to adjust your boost settings. The problem is obviously on the controller side and not an issue with the trailer.
If adjusting the boost output of your controller doesn't give you the desired braking, then I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This controller is a customer favorite because of its ease of use and function. It has an LCD screen and easy to select boost presets to make towing extremely easy. You will tap into your current brake controller wiring to connect this controller. I've attached an article to assist with important installation information.
