For any towing setup a brake controller must be used to activate the brakes on a trailer. A brake controller will either receive a signal from the vehicle or sense how much the vehicle it slowing down and tell the trailer to apply the brakes.
If you already have a 7-Way installed on your 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport that carries the basic trailer lighting functions as well as 12V power then I recommend using the Curt Echo # C51180. This is a wireless brake controller that has an internal inertia sensor which detects how much the tow vehicle is slowing down and applies the brakes on your trailer accordingly. You adjust the various settings with your phone via Bluetooth connection. It is worth noting that this controller isn't waterproof so you'll need to remove it prior to backing your trailer into the water to avoid any damage.
Please note that if you only have a 4-Way on your Range Rover then you also need to install the Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L with the mounting bracket # C57202 so that you can draw 12V power from your battery to power the brake controller.
Attached is a review video for the Echo that you can check out.
