Will Lippert EquaFlex Equalizers Work if they are Shorter than Existing Equalizers

Question:

My equalizer is a Lippert #126460. The Vertical spread = 5.75” and Horizontal hang = 2.0” I would like to replace with an EquaFlex #279687. The Vertical spread = 5.25” and Horizontal hang = 2.5” They are not the same sizes horizontal being 0.25” less for EquaFlex and vertical being 0.5” more for EquaFlex. Using my existing shackles will likely result in the springs hanging lower at the center where they attached to EquaFlex than with the 126460. I base this on i if the horizontal was the same, but the attachment point is 0.5” lower the spring must be lower and ii if the vertical was the same but the attachment point is 0.25” farther the EquaFlex would pivot down. When you combine both, I’m guessing the droop would be a hair over 0.5”. 1. Does this make any difference? 2. Can this be corrected or partially corrected by using: a. Different length shackles b. Different length leaf springs Appreciate your advice.

The standard sized equalizers on your trailer have the same dimensions as curved equalizer # TREQ104. A great option to use in place of this equalizer is the E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System # K71-652-00 which was designed to replace equalizers with the dimensions you have.

Using he EquaFlex system would throw the suspension off level some but ultimately it would not be a problem since the amount it is off is so little. You could use longer shackles to compensate or longer springs but if it were me I would just use the E-Z Flex system listed above.
