Recommended Circuit Tester to Find Cold Side of Brake Light Switch for Brake Controller

Question:

I have a 2009 Chevy Traverse LS with no factory towing package. I am adding a Towing trailer brake controller. The modular connector at the brake light switch has 3 wires: 1. A brown wire on one side 2. A green wire in the center 3. A white wire on the other side To which wire do I splice the red wire from my brake controller?

I've attached a video to assist in finding the correct wire for the cold side of your brake switch. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to confirm the correct wire before splicing. In the video of a 2010 Chevy Traverse, the white wire was the brake light wire, but the other wire colors were not the same as you stated in your 2009 model, so I definitely recommend using the tester to confirm.

If you don't already have a brake controller, I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 which is a customer favorite due to the LCD screen and easy presets. I've attached a video to assist.
