Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up When Connected to Tow Vehicle
Question:
I have a 2004 Chevy 2500 and when I plug my Big Tex dump trailer into it it the brakes lock up,

What's going on is that you have the 12 volt accessory circuit and the brake output circuit either shorting out or wired backwards for the trailer wiring connector. If you are using a 6-way connector the common cause for this problem is that there are two ways a 6-way can be wired and the only difference is that the brake output and 12 volt power circuits are swapped.
