Recommended Solution To Keep Grease Caps Lubricated And To Avoid Caps From Falling Off

Question:

Hello, We used the provided plastic ring to really get the grease cap cover off well but they have fallen off on two of these hubs? Is there a better grease cap we can buy or better yet one with a zerk fitting as these hubs do not allow for maintenance greasing?

Expert Reply:

You would need 1.98 bearing protectors such as Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors # BB1980A-SS to fit with the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4 # AKIHUB-440-2-1K . The purpose of this Bearing Buddy is to first protect your bearings by keeping water out and ensuring there is enough grease in the hub

Bearing Buddies are meant to be driven in with a mallet or hammer, not screwed in. As long as the outside diameter of the Bearing Buddy corresponds with the inside diameter of the hub bore (1.98), the Bearing Buddy will fit very tightly and will not pop out. I have linked a complete install video of the Bearing Buddy.
