Recommended Tilting/Folding Hitch Bike Carrier for Electric Bikes

Question:

What bike racks are available for people with heavier electric bikes, who have limited strength? Are there any trailer hitch mounted racks that can tilt forward for mounting bikes and then raised into the travel position?

Electric bikes, or e-bikes, are more popular than ever and they are a fast-growing category within the bicycling world. You are absolutely right that e-bikes tend to be pretty heavy, especially when their battery packs are installed; these alone can easily weigh 20-lbs or more and increase the total load of an e-bike to a weight that many otherwise excellent bike racks simply cannot handle. Most bike racks top out at 35-lbs per bike.

The smart people at Thule, one of the world's premier roof rack and bike rack manufacturers, came up with a hitch-mount bike carrier made specifically for heavier e-bikes, their EasyFold # TH9032.

The EasyFold offers a compelling mix of features and capabilities. First, it will fit both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches so it can stay with you to your next vehicle. It has a 65-lbs-per-bike weight rating, includes both rack and bike locks, folds for storage and tilts for easier rear-of-vehicle access.

Among its most compelling features is an integrated loading ramp (!) that means you do not have to lift those heavy bikes to load them after a long ride. It uses adjustable cushioned frame clamps that mean no worries if the bikes have fenders. Thanks to its aluminum and ABS-plastic construction it is both durable and lightweight (only 40-lbs) and it cannot rust. And it is engineered and backed with a lifetime warranty by one of the most customer-centric companies around.

Please refer to the linked review and installation videos to see more on what makes this an exceptional product that will last you for the rest of your biking future.

If this rack does not suit you other e-bike friendly options are shown on the linked page. Please feel free to tell me some details about the bikes you have and I will be glad to confirm the best options.
