On the Sealed Miro-Flex LED Side Marker Clearance or ID Light # MCL51CAK it is designed to have a really nice tight fit at the installation surface. Anywhere from a 2 3/4 inch diameter hole to a 3 inch hole would work well for this unit.
The actual light without the grommet is outer edge to outer edge is a diameter of about 2 1/2 inches. Adding the grommet adds about 1/8 of an inch to each side. Therefore this product with the grommet attached is 2 3/4 inches.
