The distance from the top of the bed rail on your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 to the top of the crossbar on the Adarac Pro Series Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack part # A4000948 is right around 26-1/2". I have attached a photo that shows this measurement for you as well. Generally speaking, most ladder racks are designed to sit just above the cab to allow for elongated items to be hauled with the rack/truck.
The best thing about this ladder rack aside for the fact that it is made of a lightweight aluminum is that it works great with pretty much all roll-up/folding tonneau covers that mount inside the bed rails. I have attached a review video of the rack on a similar truck for you as well.
