Installing Hopkins Agility Brake Controller on 2008 GMC Sierra 1500

Question:

I want to buy the HM47294 brake controller, but a friend told me that it is incompatible with the 2008 Sierra 1500. Something about the unit draining the battery when the ignition is off.

The Hopkins Agility Trailer Brake Controller # HM47294 is a great option for a brake controller on your 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. All brake controllers have a small power draw to keep your settings when the ignition is off on all vehicles, but they should never drain the battery if installed correctly. Your friend likely had a small ground issue or something we could troubleshoot to solve.

If you have the factory 7-way, then the wires are already run and are present under the dash for you to connect to. I've attached the installation video of a 2009 Sierra to assist.

If you do not have the factory 7-way, then you will also need # PK11898 if no round plug is present near the spare tire or # 30955 if the round plug is present. The wires are already run under your dash and to the rear of your vehicle for easy connections.
