Can a Different Shank be Used with Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution Systems

Question:

can i use my 16inch hitch bar with 66560 ball mount instead of 12inch hitch that comes with kit?my 16inch hitch bar is rated at 10000 lbs and my gross trailer weight is 8800lbs.the 16inch hitch bar would allow me to open my tailgate on the truck when hooked up.thanks for response

I spoke with my contact at Reese about using an alternate shank with the Steadi-Flex system # RP66560. She stated that you can use a different shank as long as it is solid and not hollow such as # RP3215. Also make sure that the hole spacing where the head attaches is 1-1/4 inches on center.
