Replaciong Axles on a 1970 Airstream Ambassador

Question:

Hi, I recently purchased a 1970 Airstream Ambassador with all original axles, etc. Can you please tell me which replacement axles it has two are the correct fit? I would probably be interested in a set that includes new electric brakes. And do these require any welding? Do they bolt right on?

To replace your Airstream's current axles you need to determine their weight capacity and the hub face and spring center lengths. Unfortunately, we don't have a way of knowing exactly which replacement parts fit your trailer without physically seeing it. Take a look at the picture I've attached to see where to measure. The axle capacity should be stamped somewhere on the axle itself.

From my research your trailer's dry weight is around 4,600 to 4,700 pounds which means there's a good chance you have two 3,500 pound axles. All of our standard 3,500 pound axles for leaf spring suspension trailers measure 89 inches hub face to hub face and 74 inches spring center to spring center. I've linked the selection for you.

Another option you might take a look at is the Timbren Axle-less suspension systems. Since there's a good chance your trailer's suspension needs to be replaced as well this good be the perfect solution. The Timbrens replace the trailer's axle and suspension with two separate units that install on each side of the trailer and work independent of each other. Part # A35RS545E is a 3,500 pound rated system. I've linked videos for you to take a look at as well.
