Best Weight Distribution System with Sway Control for a 2000 Fleetwood Mallard M-29Y

Question:

Last year I purchased 2000 Mallard 29Y travel trailer that I pull with a 2008 Chevy Tahoe. I use the standard weight distribution system with a friction sway control bar that came with it. I am having issues with sway and want to know if this is because I have the current system set up wrong or do I need a different system. I just want to be sure that I have an adequate system. It was a little more stressful than anticipated pulling this around. I think that I have done a good job of loading the travel travel as far weight distribution. Thank you

It would be hard for me to speak of the weight distribution system you have without knowing the brand, model, and capacity. However, a weight distribution system is only effective if it is properly rated for the trailer. The average tongue weight of a trailer is between 10 and 15% of the gross trailer weight (GTW). I looked up your 2000 Fleetwood Mallard M-29Y and it appears that if the trailer is loaded correctly, you should have a tongue weight between 500 and 750 lbs. You will also need to account for any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle in order to choose the best weight distribution system.

The best weight distribution system we have to help manage trailer sway is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System. For your trailer, I recommend using part # EQ37100ET which is rated for a TTW between 600 and 1,000 lbs. This system has 4-point sway control which is one of the most advanced systems on the market. I have attached a review/install video of the system for you as well to give you better idea of how it works.
