Question:

I am getting the recommended cc275. But my son is concerned about hanging expensive mountain bike by the rims on the recommended bo1311. Your thoughts?

The Lets Go Aero NEO2 2-Bike Rack # B01748 is indeed a wheel-mount type rack that holds bikes by their rims. Such a rack avoids contact with the bike's frame or cables, which many riders consider to be an advantage. Since the wheels/rims are intended to support the weight of the bike and rider they are often a good way to load a bike, especially bikes that have fenders. Certainly exceptions could apply, such as with high-end carbon wheels on road bikes. This carrier is approved to be used behind cars, trucks, SUV's, vans, Motorhomes and Flat-Towed Vehicles but not Fifth Wheels of Travel Trailers.

If you plan to use the bike rack in the trailer-mounted Bike Bunk A-Frame Carrier # CC-275, you can use another style of RV-rated bike rack, one other than a wheel-mount. The page I linked for you shows other racks styles that will fit the Bike Bunk and that will not suspend the bikes by their wheels.

For example, the Swagman Original 3 # S64152-2 is a frame-mount rack that holds bikes by their top frame tubes. This requires the bikes to have a horizontal top frame tube as is typically found on a boy's/man's bike. I own this rack and while it is not a fancy "boutique" model it is quite solidly built and rated for RV and trailer use.
