Long Ball Mount Recommendation for 6-1/2 inches of Rise to Clear Subaru Bumper
Question:
Im trying to find a ball mount that will work to pull a yakima rack and roll trailer with my Subaru outback. My trailer hitch is recessed quite a ways which is creating some math problems for me. From the center of the hitch pin hole to clear my bumper is 6 1/2 inches. Based on the my measurements to have the trailer level, I will need about 6 1/2 inches of rise. The problem is that with the angle iron on most ball mounts, Im fearful most wont clear my bumper. Having searched through your web site Im confident that the MaxxTow MT70068 will work since it has 8 1/8inch clearance. But it looks a bit wobbly in the video review. Is that an accurate assessment? I also found the Curt C45100 which looks like it might just be long enough in the rise position to barely clear my bumper, but there are no measurements on your site indicating the distance from the pin to the start of the angle iron. The top of my receiver tube is about 1 3/4inch below my bumper so Im thinking that maybe with that extra space that the Curt might just barely fit. What do you think? Thanks.

Best option will be the MaxxTow Adjustable Ball Mount # MT70068 which will have the clearance and will work well to tow your trailer level. This does not have a reputation as having a wobble problem either. Especially if you were to use it with an anti-rattle device like the part # 63232 which will do a great job keeping it tight to the hitch tube.
