Are there Specific Mounting Instructions for Dexter Electric over Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator
Question:
I purchased a Dexter electric over hydraulic actuator to install on my boat trailer. All of the installations I have seen show this unit mounted front to back on the front centerline of the trailer. My trailer has a nice S curve in the hydraulic line and I would like to mount the unit perpendicular to the centerline or essentially cross ways on the front of the trailer. Is this a problem for the unit? It will actually mount much easier and connect to the hydraulics better in this position. Thank you.

According to Dexter, the Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator, # K71-650, can be mounted at your discretion. But, there are a few things to consider.
The shorter the wiring between the actuator and the power source, the smaller the voltage drop. It should be located so that the electrical wiring and brake lines can be neatly routed directly to the tow vehicle and trailer brakes. Special care should be taken to minimize the number of bends and fittings in the brake line circuits.
An emergency breakaway kit must be located on the trailer so that the trailer breakaway cable can be easily attached to the towing vehicle. You can use Dexter Breakaway Kit, # 34-285.
It should not be placed in an area where it is susceptible to damage from trailer loads, road debris, or from being stepped on, as these things can cause damage and cause the actuator to malfunction and void the warranty.
As long as you follow these guidelines, you will be able to mount it as you see fit.
