Can the Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller Work with a 2017 Mazda CX-9
Question:
Hi, Would you have a wireless brake controller that works with 2017 Mazda CX-9? On your website it says the Tekonsha RF Wireless Brake Controller doesn’t fit the 2017 Mazda CX-9. Do you have other wireless products that fit? Thanks,

Our fit guide only resorts to showing the Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller, part # TK94FR, if there aren't really any other options for your particular vehicle. There are lots of brake controller options for your 2017 Mazda CX-9 so it doesn't show up. However, it will work for you because it works on any vehicle that has a 7-way trailer connector with an active 12 volt pin.
If you don't have a 7-way connector already then you need to add one to use the Prodigy RF. The easiest way to add one is to start with a 4-way and convert it to a 7-way. If you already have a 4-way then you're already started. If not part # C59236 works on your Mazda if you don't have a tow package and part # 118278 is what you need if you do have the tow package.
With a 4-way installed use an adapter, like part # 37185, to convert it to a 7-way. The 4-way plugs in to provide the lighting functions on the trailer. Then you need to run the black wire of the adapter to the positive post on your Mazda's battery through a circuit breaker, part # 9510. This power wire is what supplies power to the Prodigy RF.
