How to Determine if GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier # H00604 Will Allow Tailgate to Open
Question:
I have a 2017 Silverado pickup .. will the Geardeck 17 slide out far enough so I can still tail gate ??..

Expert Reply:
When the GearDeck 17 Enclosed Hitch Cargo Carrier part # H00604 is slid away from the vehicle, it will be 64 inches from the center of the hitch to the pod. You'd have to measure out 64 inches straight out from your hitch opening to know if this will clear.
Since you are talking about tailgating, you might be happier with a swing away carrier like the Yakima EXO # Y62VR. It would swing off to the side of your vehicle and give you full access to the back of your pickup. You will just need to see if it will fit. When installed the closest edge of the carrier will be 4-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole. This is a problem on cars that have their hitches back under the bumper. Check it out on your pickup.
