Recommendation For Propane For RV Water Heater With Quick Disconnect

Question:

We are nearly complete with our travel trailer. I have installed a Rinnai water heater at 150,000 btus for the shower. I plan on hard piping my water heater and gas grill but would like to make it where my grill has a quick disconnect with a cut off when not using. I plan to leave a tee in line with the water heater with a quick connect and cutoff so I can plug in and feed the system with 2-30lb propane bottles when in use and disconnect when traveling. Would I be better to do an auto-changeover and hook both bottles together and if so what type of regulator would you advise for that high of an output? Will I be able to use one regulator to supply both or will I have to install another for my direct connection to the grill?

Based on your information, you will need to connect a propane tee off of one of your propane tanks before the regulator like the MB Sturgis Propane Tee, Item # 103613-MBS. You will use this tee to run a connection to your grill/small appliances. What hose and/or fittings you need for your grill connection will depend on whether or not you have a regulator already with your grill. After that, you will need a 2-stage regulator with automatic changeover like the Camco Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator, Item # CAM59005. From the 2-Stage regulator, you will run a hose to your water heater.

Let me know more about your grill connection and whether or not a regulator present as well any hoses you need and I will make specific recommendations.

I have also attached additional information propane and propane fittings as well as a video to assist you.
