Why is There a Warning on Break Away Cable to Avoid Disconnection for More than 20 Minutes

Warning label says do not leave plunger disconnected for more than 20 minutes. What damage can be caused by this?

When the plunger of a breakaway switch like # 3802348 is pulled the battery in the breakaway system will be connected to the trailer brake circuit. This is how a breakaway system stops a trailer if there is a disconnect between it and the tow vehicle.
By law a breakaway battery has to be able to keep the trailer's electric brakes fully engaged for at least 15 minutes.
