How Does Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Controller Know How Much Brake Power to Apply

Question:

I am thinking about ordering the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller for my 1970 chevy c30 with hydroboost and disk brake conversion. I am looking a buying a gooseneck trailer. In the video it says it will apply the trailer brakes harder depending on how hard I brake. I want to know how the brake controller know how hard I am braking? Will I need to add a sensor or something?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR has a sensor built into it that senses deceleration that activates when your brake pedal is pressed. What this allows it to do is know how hard you are applying the vehicle brakes so that it can match that output with the trailer brakes.

The term for the sensor is "accelerometer" which basically what it does is sense changes in inertia.
