Can 1600 PSI Pressure from Actuator be Used with Drum Brake Assemblies
Question:
can I use a 1600 PSI pump on 15K drum brakes?
asked by: Ernie A
Expert Reply:
Brake actuators designed for drum brakes typically produce around 1,000 psi pressure at most, while disc brake actuators will produce closer to the 1,600-psi pressure that you mentioned in your question. I do not recommend using a disc brake actuator for drum brakes, as the higher pressure could blow out the wheel cylinders of a drum brake assembly.
If you already have an actuator, you may be able to install a pressure reducer valve to drop the pressure down to what is needed for the drum brakes. Otherwise, you can install a new master cylinder for drum brakes into the actuator. For example, if you happen to have a Titan Model 60 Actuator for drum brakes, you can replace its master cylinder with # T4395100.
If you have something different, please let me know and I will be happy to help you further.
