Troubleshooting Discontinued Draw-Tite I-Command Trailer Brake Controller 0.9 Error Code
Question:
I am getting an error [ small 0 on top . 9 ] according to the book it says, trailer is connected and brake control loses connection to battery ground. I am in a 2010 Ford F150. i had previously bought a TM75813 brake controller from you that you do not sell anymore. it worked ok but started acting weird. i am using the ford adapter harness TM76292. my truck was prewired from the factory but i did not have a factory controller or anything. I decided to replace the old controller with this one and i just hooked up to my trailer for the first time and i got this error. any help greatly appreciated!

The fact that your old controller and the new one, 5535, both had errors and/or were acting strangely indicates that the issue could be with either the controller wiring harness or the vehicle's wiring. What you can do is splice in a jumper ground wire to the brake controller white wire and attach the other end to a bare metal surface. Ideally you would ground it to the negative battery terminal but for this test you can attach it to a metal surface in the cab somewhere under the dash. If the issue is truly caused by a weak ground connection then the controller should work as normal with an additional ground wire.
