Will Too Much Grease Cause Resistance in Wheels?

Question:

Before summer season I inspected the bearings on my trailer. It is a small, 1200 lb, 12inch wheels, 4 on 4 hub trailer. The bearings were nice, no need of repairs. I greased them, then install them, adjusted the nut, checked for tightness and wheel spin. All was OK. Then I used the Zerk fitting to put grease on them. After I was done - both sides became tight. Meaning, when I am spinning the wheel there is a lot of resistance. It is like running bearing in cold honey. My question is - will it cause any problem? Can there be too much of grease? Will it heat up causing the bearing to overheat/leaking grease or such? I mean, resistance means heat will be generated... Last time when I was doing it I must have not put this much grease, I guess. Thanks in advance,

The problem you are describing is odd because putting grease in should not cause resistance. I recommend disassembling your hubs and checking all the parts to make sure the bearings are seated correctly, the nut is tightened correctly and the seal is not broken.
