Recommendation for Landing Gear System on 5,000 Pound Horse Trailer
Question:
Hi, I have a 2005 Shadow 3 horse trailer, empty weight 3200, with all the added and horse about 5,000. Would this work to replace the manual trailer jack I have?

The Reese Electric 5th Wheel Landing Gear Set # RP500708 referenced in your question features a combined lift capacity of 8,000 pounds, which is more than enough for your trailer that weighs about 5,000 pounds loaded. Just keep in mind that landing gear is designed to stabilize a portion of a trailer's weight, and not to support the full GVWR of the trailer. The dual electric jacks will elevate or lower the trailer with just a flip of a switch, so you won't need to worry about hand cranking the jacks. Each motor as its own toggle switch, so you can operate each jack independently for accurate leveling. They have a retracted bracket height of 29-13/32 inches and a total lift of 36 inches.
The measurement from the inside of the top weld stop to the inside of the bottom weld stop is 15-1/2 inches. The measurement from outside to outside on the weld stops is 17-1/2 inches. You can compare this to the brackets on your trailer to see if this will bolt right up to them. Otherwise, they can simply be cut off so you can weld the new system on.
