Recommended Hitch to Use With B&W Turnover Ball Gooseneck on 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed
Question:
I recently purchased a 2007 Laredo fifth wheel RV. It weighs 12,000 lbs.loaded with an 1,850 lbs. tongue weight. It came with an Andersen Ranch Hitch #3139 with an 8inch offset for towing with short bed truck. I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with a BandW Turnover Gooseneck hitch. I pulling my RV home about five miles, no issues. So I am looking for advice as to whether this is a good combination for towing my RV? I have read both good and bad reviews on the Andersen #3139 hitch. I do not want to damage my new RV or my truck. Have a lot of experience towing gooseneck trailers but first time with fifth wheel and conversion. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

The Ranch Hitch Adapter # AM3139 is fine for temporary use but is not something I recommend using for an extended period as it may put added stress on your trailer frame and possibly void the warranty. You are already halfway to what is considered by many to be the best fifth wheel setup with the Turnoverball Gooseneck # BWGNRK1313-5W on your 2004 Dodge Ram; I highly recommend using the sliding B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W.
With more than 400 reviews from our customers who have purchased it, the Companion has gotten a nearly unanimous 5-star rating. It features dual jaws which are a full 1" thick to provide complete contact with your king pin so you can have faith that your connection is completely secure.
The Companion is also going to give you a much quieter ride with less rattling than other fifth wheels due to that secure connection, along with the polyurethane bushings it has. It also has a pivoting head to make hooking up easier, a cam-action latch to deter binding, and offers three different height settings to ensure you are level with your fifth wheel. This hitch has a built-in slider to accommodate the 6-1/2 foot bed on your Ram, and has a towing capacity of 20,000 lbs. I've added links to reviews of this hitch for you to take a look at as well.
