Recommendation For Weight Distribution System For 28 Foot Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 28’ travel trailer with a rated hitch weight of 610lbs. Is a hitch rated for 1000lbs max hitch weight too much?

Based on your information, it sounds like your travel trailer weight has a tongue weight of 610-lbs or so. If this weight is with your trailer empty then it will change when fully loaded and you will also need to include anything stored behind your rear axle when fully loaded as well. Ideally, you want the tongue weight to land in the middle of the tongue weight range of a weight distribution system.
Based on the your information, I recommend looking at something like the Reese Round Bar Weight Distribution Kit With Shank, Item # RP67509, which is designed for maximum towing weight of 10,000-lbs and maximum tongue weight of 800-lbs. If you need a larger tongue weight capacity then I recommend the Pro Series Weight Distribution System Item # PS49583, which is designed for a maximum towing weight of 10,000-lbs with tongue weight range of 750-lbs to 1,000-lbs. You can add Friction Sway Control # 83660 and hitch ball # 19286.
If these will not work for you, let me know and we can work on some other options.
I am attaching an article on weight distribution as well as a link to our available weight distribution inventory for you to check out.
