Is the Wiring for a Proportional Brake Controller the Same as a Time-Delay Brake Controller
Question:
When I had the controller installed on my 2001 F-150, I purchased a wiring harness from a local dealer. This is not a proportional controller and I now tow a heavier trailer and need the greater control provided with the proportional controller. My question, will this harness work for the P2?

Expert Reply:
A time-delayed brake controller and a proportional brake controller will use the same 4 wires (power, ground, stop, brake) to install so the wiring will not be the issue. The issue with using the same wiring harness on two different brake controllers is the shape of the connector that plugs into the controller.
I have attached a photo of what the connector that is used on the end of the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 (great choice by the way) looks like so you can compare that to the connector already installed on your truck. If the connector is not the same then the above controller comes with the correct harness and wiring connectors you will need to install it and since it's only 4 wires, swapping out the connectors will be very easy and can even be color matched in most cases.
