Bike Rack That Will Carry a Pair of 50 lb Electric Bikes

Question:

I will be carrying two electric bikes that weigh about 50 pounds each. Will this carrier be strong enough? Swagman bike rack product number 64686

We do have a bike rack that will work for you but the Swagman Semi 2.0 only has a weight capacity of 45 lbs per bike. Instead, I highly recommend the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443 which has a weight capacity of 60 lbs per bike.

The HoldUp # Y02443 is similar to the Swagman you asked about in that it fits 2 inch hitches, uses ratcheting hooks on the arms to hold your bikes by the wheels so there is no frame contact and can be tilted down for access to your rear cargo area as well as folded up when it is not being used; the HoldUp also has an anti-rattle hitch lock to reduce movement and secure the rack.

It differs from the Swagman in a few ways however. The HoldUp uses wheel trays which you can adjust from side-to-side for handlebar clearance and also comes with a cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack, adding additional protection for your expensive bikes. This rack will work for your bikes so long as they have tires no more than 2-1/2" wide, a wheel diameter between 14" - 29" and a maximum wheelbase of 47-3/4".

I've added links to a pair of video reviews of this rack for you to take a look at as well.
