Since you did not mention your specific Subaru vehicle, model year or tire size I cannot offer you a specific recommendation for tire chains but I can get you started.
Any vehicle from any auto maker will indicates in its owner's manual information about use of tire chains. Some vehicles can use chains only on certain specific tire sizes; others may be able to use chains only on one axle or the other; still other vehicles may require that you use a special type of low-profile chains called Class S chains which are less likely to damage vehicle parts like brake lines. Some cars have limited space inside the wheel wells which can make clearance a legitimate concern. Generally chains will go on the primary drive axle, so a front-wheel-drive car will usually use them on the front axle.
So, what you want to do is check the index of our owner's manual under the letter "T" for tires, then under the tires heading find the reference to chains. This part of your manual will tell you what Subaru says you can and cannot do with your specific vehicle model and tire size.
Please email me back with your vehicle model, model year and tire size, which is indicated on the tire sidewall. I can then check the owner's manual for guidance and offer you a specific tire chain recommendation.
In the meantime you may care to check out the articles on tire chains that I linked for you.
