To flat tow your 2017 Ford Fusion Energi you need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle lighting, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter.

You can use the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BLU44FR with the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7380 which is rated for 6,500 lbs and comes with safety cables that have the same weight rating.

If you plan on flat towing every year then I recommend installing the Roadmaster Wiring Kit # RM-15267. Once this is installed you just have to connect the included coil wiring to your RV and Fusion and you are good to go.

For a supplemental braking system, you definitely need to have one installed; it is required legally in most states and helps to keep the wear and tear down on the RV and tow vehicle plus it is much more safe to use one.

For a braking system I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 which is a one time installation. After it is installed you barely notice that it is there and it is extremely easy to set up for flat towing. If you would rather have a system that you remove from your Fusion then the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR is the way to go. Either way, you will still need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 as well.

Should you choose to use the Patriot II then I also recommend installing the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 to keep your battery from draining. This will connect from the battery to the middle pin on the 6-Way that comes with the wiring kit that I mentioned above.

The last thing that you may need is a high-low adapter. I have attached a link to our selection as well as a link to a helpful article that details how to choose the correct one.

Be sure to check your owner's manual for any specifics when flat towing your Fusion.
