Hopkins Agility Brake Controller # HM47295 Reads 99 Percent Power When Brakes are Applied

Question:

Ive had the controller for aprox. 2 years. I used it for the first time back this past May. my problem is that no matter how gently I slow down with the brakes the aplyed power goes right to 99 of the power level its set at. the controller thinks its in a panic stop as soon as the brake peddle is touched. what gives?

I would recommend to make sure that you have the Hopkins Agility Brake Controller, part # HM47295 mounted correctly in your 2006 Dodge Ram truck. The brake controller needs to be mounted from minus 20 degrees nose down to plus 70 degrees nose up and parallel to the direction of the travel.

Next, would be to connect your truck and trailer and test drive on a dry open area at low speed (20 to 25 mph). Apply vehicle brakes aggressively. If trailer brakes lock-up, adjust down the power setting to just below brake lock-up by pressing the (-) power button on top of the controller..

If the braking performance from the trailer feels as if it is pushing the tow vehicle, adjust the power setting higher by pressing the (+) power button on top of the controller. Repeat process until smooth braking is obtained.

Also, set the sensitivity level. This feature makes your trailer braking response more or less sensitive. A setting of 1 indicates least sensitive. A setting of 5 indicates most sensitive. Adjust the sensitivity by pressing the button
labeled - S - on the side of the brake controller.

I am including a link to the instructions on the Hopkins Agility brake controller.
