How to Wire the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector Part # AT36681

Question:

The safe t alert CO and Propane unit I have seems to be defective after 1 year. Id like to try this unit although it isnt the same size. My major concern is the safe t alert is a two wire connection. How do I connect the three wire atwood unit to my two wires?

The Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector part # AT36681 has three wires as you mentioned but only two will need to be used. There are two red wires and one black wire. The black wire is ground and the two red wires are for power. Only one of the red wires will need to be used. The other red wire is for an optional backup power source.

I have attached a wiring diagram to explain this for you as well. Please note that because LP gas is heavier than air, this detector should be installed no more than 18" from the floor so that it can accurately detect the amount of gas in your RV.

There are no serviceable parts, so you should replace your CO and Propane detector, and a great choice is the RVSafe # RS34FR.
