There are several different base plates available depending on the model 2006 GMC Yukon XL you have. For a 1500 or Denali, use XL Style Base Plates, # 199-5. For a 2500, use # 3115-1.

From the research I did, the Yukon has a curb weight of up to 5,770 pounds. With gear loaded in it, it could easily exceed 6,000 pounds. For this reason, I recommend going with a 10,000 pound capacity tow bar like the Roadmaster Blackhawk 2 All Terrain, # RM-422. I have included a link to the installation details.

This tow bar has built-in safety cable guides, so you will need straight safety cables like # RM-645. For lighting, there are a couple of options. If you do not plan on towing the Yukon frequently, you can use a magnetic light kit like # RM-2120. If you will be towing it frequently, I recommend wiring the vehicle with diodes using Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, # RM-154. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you to view.

Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to use and set up is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking saving wear and tear on both vehicles and creating safer braking situations.
