Will 3,500 Pound Trailer Jack be Enough for a Trailer with 550 Pounds of Tongue Weight

Question:

I want to purchase an electric jack for my Coachmen Clipper 17BHS trailer. I am looking at the Stromberg Carlson Camper Jack - JET-3755. The ad indicates the jack can handle up to 3,500 lbs. Is this sufficient for my trailer with a tongue weight of 550 lbs. and using an Equal-i-zer 90-00-06000 hitch? I would need the jack to lift the trailer tongue/pickup to allow easy connection of the sway bars.

An A-frame trailer jack technically only needs to be rated high enough to handle the trailer's tongue weight. They're pretty much all rated quite a bit higher than is really necessary to make sure they're able to lift the tongue weight (as opposed to just supporting it) and at a decent speed.

So the Stromberg Carlson, part # JET-3755, won't have any problem with your trailer's 550 pounds of tongue weight and will work well for you.
