Replacement Air Ride Pin Box for 5th Wheel Trailer with Damaged Lippert 1716 Pin Box

Question:

The dealer I bought my toyhauler from did a bad job repairing the kingpin/plate after bending the previous they bent moving the trailer with a forklift and cup while making other repairs they lied about and did a crap job repairing and lied about what they did. The capture plate was bending so i removed it and found the plate and kingpin were bent as well. I am looking to replace the kingpin box myself. I wanted to make sure this would be the right one for a 2008 Weekend Warrior LE3505. There is only a number 5HRSS35328C024562 on the box, no other info. Based on the measurements from your website the replacement should be a Lippert 1716. I am wanting to purchase the 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Air Ride Coupler - Extended - 12-1/2inch Wide Air Ride. Is there some way to confirm this is the correct box? Thank you!

The first thing I would do is have a reputable shop take a look at where the pin box mounts to the trailer and the frame above that which is covered by the trailer body because there could be unseen damage that could result in a failure down the road even if the pin box is replaced.

Assuming that is all fine then going by the measurements is pretty much the definitive way to figure out which pin box will fit. If you have down the measurements and they match up to the Lippert 1716 then we can go from there. To make sure you have all the measurements I have linked our help article on the measurements needed. There could be more than one pin box that will fit so it is a good idea to double check the list.

The 5th Airborne pin box # 5AB-E510-710 is a solid option that does fit in place of the 1716 pin box as well as a few others. It is rated for 21,000 pounds gross trailer weight. The other option is Trailair pin box # LC158777. The main difference between these 2 is where the internal parts are located, specifically the shock and air bag. Otherwise they both do a fine job and providing a better ride.
