Why Would Trailer Brakes Come on With Vehicle Blinker

When I turn on my turn signals on my truck 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 my trailer brakes activate even if I havent applied my truck brakes. Is this supposed to happen? If not what is wrong?

Expert Reply:
You have a short between the stoplight circuit of your trailer wiring and the brake output circuit which since the stoplights and the turn signals are on the same circuit your brake controller will pulse whenever you turn on the blinker.
Other possibility is someone incorrectly wired your trailer brakes to the stoplight circuit thinking that is how they work when in reality it's not at all. Trailer brakes require a brake controller. I attached a help article on controllers for you to check out as well.
