Recommended Replacement Hand Winch for a Boat Trailer with a 6,500 Lb Boat

Question:

Hi, some of the teeth gears broke on my Manual Trailer Winches steel cables for my 25 ft parker boat. Boat 6500 lb on a roller trailer. Looking for new one speed Manual Trailer Winches. Witch one is needed? Over kill is ok. I seen cables snap in my life time. I don’t want to get hurt now that I’m retired. Thank you.

It is always a good idea to use a winch that is overrated for the purpose you will be using it for. A winch that is used near the bottom end of its capacity will last much longer then a winch used at the top end of its capacity. We do have wire rope options for a hand winch on your boat trailer but I recommend using a winch with a synthetic strap as this will last longer for marine applications in addition to causing less damage if the strap were to break.

For your 6,500 lb boat, I recommend using the 2-Speed Boat Trailer Winch with 20' Strap and Brake - 3,200 lbs
Item # 315-W3200D which comes with a 20' heavy duty strap and has a 3,200 lb weight capacity. The winch will never be responsible for handling the entire weight of the boat therefore the 3,200 lb capacity of the winch will be more than enough for your needs. The winch also has a 2-speed design which will minimize the number of turns it will take to get your boat ashore. The single speed hand winch options we have will not be sufficient for the weight of your boat.

I have attached a review video of the above winch for you as well.
