Recommended Roof Basket for 1-1/2 Inch Tall Crossbars on GMC Savana Van
Question:
Hi, Im interested in the Rola roof top carrier. My inquiry is this, I need the rack to mount on to a cross bar thats 1.50 inches thick. The Rola mounting instructions state that the bracket can only accommodate up to 1.25 inches thick. Do you have any solutions to make this mounting bracket work? The Thule Roof Mounted Cargo Basket # TH859XT referenced in your question is compatible with a wide array of crossbar sizes. This roof rack will work for you as long as your crossbars are spread apart between 20 inches and 37 inches. This roof basket has an optional extension in part # TH8591XT and optional lock in the part # TH450400.
You could also take a look at a similarly priced basket like the Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket # C18115-117. This basket is 64-1/2 inches, and it is compatible with crossbars of up to 1-5/8 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It works with crossbar spreads between 22 and 50 inches. I have attached a short video demonstration on this product that you can also take a look at.
You might also be interested in a cargo net like the Curt # C18201 to secure your cargo to the basket or even a bag like # C18221 to protect your valuables from the elements. Either of these will work perfectly with this cargo basket.
