Wiring FAQ about Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit

Question:

When using RM-88400 with a push button start switch the instruction call for using the blue wire attached to the tail light circuit coming from the Motorhome, requiring the Motorhome taillights to be on al all times. Can this also be attached to the 12v input from the RV at the six plug receptical on the tow vihicle? I assume the relay is just looking for a 12v input to turn off the signal from the brake pedal. If that is the case this should work and then I would not have to have the taillights on the Motorhome on at all times.

As far as your question, you are correct, the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 relay on a push button start is just looking for a 12v signal. My contact from the manufacturer Roadmaster says, they use the tail light feed since it is already existing and customer does not have extra wiring to connect and it is easy to make part of their hook up routine.

If you are going to supply with a different source, you just need to ensure that you supply that power every time so there are no issues with the vehicle. You will also need to disconnect from that power supply in order to start the truck.
