For your 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL450, the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # TK94FR is a confirmed fit for use with your factory tow package. There is nothing specific about the installation, but there are a couple restrictions for use. It cannot be submerged or immersed in water and it is not compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes.
If you were to use this with another vehicle, there are times that the brake controller output pin on the 7-way needs to be covered with tape to avoid issues because it isn't utilized by this system. That pin is in the 5 o'clock position as you face the connection on the vehicle.
