Will 6,000 Pound Trailer Brake Assemblies Work on an Axle Rated for 5,200 Pounds

Question:

I have a Dexter 5200# leaf spring axle. Are the 5200 and 6000# axle brake parts the same, and will this 6000# brake assembly work?

Expert Reply:

Your trailer most likely has a 6,000 pound axle that is rated for 5,200 pounds because that is what the rest of the trailer can handle. So you will be able to use the 6,000 pound brake assemblies like # 23-105 for the left side, and # 23-106 for the right side.
