Recommended Supplemental Braking System for 1997 Toyota Rav4

Question:

I am interested in a 1997 Rav4 Toyota. It has a roadmaster tow bracket on it and has the air line for a brakemaster system. But no cylinder or other parts. I plan to tow it with a class C Winnebego. So would I need to have and air compressor installed on the RV to supply air to the brakemaster?

Without having an air brake system on your motorhome, you will not be able to utilize that braking system. A compressor when you have hydraulic brakes would not be able to cycle fast enough to give you the pressure needed and you would need a release mechanism as well.

As an alternative, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251. This is a proportional braking system that will apply the brakes to your Rav4 at the same time and with the same intensity as you press the brake pedal in your Winnebago. The system is easy to install and only needs adjusted at installation. Then the system becomes and extremely reliable plug and play system.
