Can 2012 Ram 2500 MegaCab 4x4 with Rambox Safely Tow 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have the BandW turnover gooseneck ball system. I am looking at purchasing a 5th wheel toyhauler soon and looking at best setup to go in my truck. I was considering the Anderson Ultimate. Can you tell me if this works or if I should purchase another system. I do utilize my gooseneck system so do not prefer to remove it.

The Rambox feature is not an ideal partner for a 5th wheel hitch installation in a truck such as your 2012 Ram 2500 Megacab 4x4. The tool boxes limit side clearance which can cause interference with the pin box as you make turns, and the short bed limits turning clearance between the trailer overhang and the back window of your cab.

We have had customers report that with a Sidewinder pin box they were able to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a truck with a Ram Box. Sidewinders move the pivot point higher so the Ram Box wouldn't interfere.

The only problem is that Sidewinder hasn't officially said that you can use a Sidewinder with a truck with a Ram Box without interference. Because of that we can't recommend you attempt to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a truck like your Ram 2500 with a Ram Box feature.

Always the best option for towing a 5th wheel is a long bed pickup without any extra features like tool boxes. Long beds avoid the cab clearance issue and the absence of the Ram Box feature means the pivoting pin box will not contact anything.
