Wireless Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2018 Toyota RAV4 XLE with 4-Way Plug
Question:
I have a quicksilver pop up trailer with electric brakes and a 7 blade connector. I think the dealer installed trailer hitch and wiring connector is only 4 pin. They mentioned I will have to get a wireless break controller. Please recommend which brake controller and any adapters I will need. Will the car charge the trailer battery as I drive to the next camp site? Any recommendations to hitch, wiring harness, etc if I don’t get the dealer to do the install? Thanks

We actually have the Curt Echo # C51180 which is a wireless controller that has settings adjustable via Bluetooth connection to an Apple/Android smart phone. Simply plug in the Echo, pair the phone to the controller, and you're good to start adjusting any settings and hit the road!
You mentioned that you only have a 4-Way on your 2018 Toyota RAV4 so you will need to install the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L so that you have your basic trailer light functions as well as 12V power to not only power the Echo but to also send a maintenance charge to your trailer like what you mentioned. You'll want to use a no-drill bracket like part # C57202 for a place to hang the upgrade kit bracket.
Please note that a maintenance charge will just maintain your trailer battery and it won't actually charge it. If you wanted to make sure the battery was charged then you'd need to add a charging setup like the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC # 331-BCDC1225D (with the fuse kit # 331-FK40).
If you are still needing a ball mount and hitch ball, I have attached a link to our selection of ball mounts and hitch balls that you can choose from as well as a helpful article on how to choose the correct one.
