Fastway Weight Distribution for a V-Nose Trailer with Limited Space on Frame  

Question:

i have a v nose trailer with a short tongue, with that being said i dont have much room to mount the brackets for the bars. i have approximately 29 inches so this system will give me enough room. My question is will this work with my tongue weight? the trailer weight 2020 lbs empty and i will be towing approximately 1300 lbs - 1800 lbs inside it. mostly 1800 lbs. the GVWR of the trailer is 6990 lbs. if my calculation are correct my tongue weight should be between 350 lbs and 700 lbs. any information would be appreciated. thank you

With a trailer weighing 3,820 pounds the tongue weight will be in the neighborhood of 380 to 573 pounds which is 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. But to that you also need to add in the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. So for example if you had 100 pounds of gear behind the tow vehicle rear axle that would make the tongue weight 480 to 673 pounds.

The minimum tongue weight for the Fastway system, # FA94-00-1033, to be effective is 400 pounds. The maximum is 1,000 pounds. Assuming that you are within that range then this system will work for you.

The only other parts needed to complete this system are a ball and a shank. For a 2-5/16 inch ball you can use # 19286. For a shank there are some options depending on how much rise or drop is needed to tow the trailer level:

Shank # FA92-02-4315 = 12-1/2" rise or 9-3/4" drop
Shank # FA92-02-4214 = 10-1/4" rise or 5-1/2" drop
Shank # FA92-02-4213 = 7-3/4" rise or 5-1/4" drop
Shank # FA92-02-4100 = 6-1/4" rise or 2-1/4" drop
