For you 2017 Ford Escape SE, we have a variety of carriers to choose from
If you want an open carrier, I recommend the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - 500 lbs # C18152. This carrier weighs 64 pounds so you would be able to add 286 pounds of cargo to adhere to your hitches 350 lb capacity, assuming your Ford has the same 350 tongue weight capacity. You'll appreciate the numerous tie-down points available on the carrier, and it has a rise of 2-1/2" to increase your ground clearance.
If you are interested in an enclosed carrier, I have two recommendations.
First, the Thule Arcos Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - 14 cu ft - 110 lbs # TH25YE. This is a fixed carrier that can carry up to 110 lbs of cargo and has built-in lights that will hood to your vehicle's 4-pole connector.
Next we have the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches - 10 cu ft - 100 lbs # Y62VR that is a swing away carrier which gives you access to the rear of your Escape. This is part of the EXO modular system that can add a second deck with a bike rack, second carrier, and more.
It will be important to explore the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of your bumper with to see which carrier is the best fit for your needs.
Check out the product videos that I have attached.
