It sounds like you've found the factory brake controller port on your 2013 Ford F-150. In order to install a trailer brake controller to the factory harness, you will just need the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 22292. One end of the adapter will connect to the built-in port that you found, and the other end will plug right into the brake controller itself.
For a trailer brake controller, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is an excellent, proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your truck. It features an easy to read digital display, along with continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. This unit is well known for its reliability and ease of use.
I have attached an installation video on a 2014 F-150 that you can use for reference, along with the written installation manual.
